one of the things i miss most about
living in nyc is the intimacy of pedestrian
and commuter culture.
the huddled masses are forced up
against each other in the subways,
busses and streets.
cultures merge. demographics blend.
your senses absorb the sights sounds
and smells, for better or worse,
of your fellow city dwellers.
everyone becomes a part of everything,
if only for a few minutes.
interaction and confrontation
is beautifully unavoidable.
the new york times is running a wonderful
wonderful wonderful series called
one in 8 million
that makes me feel like home.
my favorite story is from
mr. tremitiere: the baby deliverer.
